Padang-West Sumatra By: Group 1



Padang is a province located in west Sumatra, Indonesia. This province is located right across Pekanbaru.
People who lives in Padang are called Padangneese or Suku Minang. They have amazing cultures. for example :

DANCES
one of their dance is called tari Piring. Tari Piring is a classic Indonesian dance, where the dancers dance using plates. this dance is used to thank the gods. other dances from Padang is Tari Indang, Tari Galombang Persambahan and Tari Payung.

SONGS
Padang has a lot of songs. The first is called Ayam Den Lapeh which means my loose chicken. The next song is well known in Indonesia, it's name is Kampoang Nan Jaoh Di Mato which means village far from my eyes. Other songs are 'Susi Samo di Ganggam' and 'Sansaro'.

 MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Padang has lots of musical instruments. The first one is Talempong. Talempong is a musical instrument that looks like a few tiny Gongs put in a box. We play them by hitting them with a special stick. Other musical instruments from Padang is Gadang Tabuik, Sasando, Bansi, Rabab and Canang.
TRADITIONAL HOUSE
Padang's traditional house is called Rumah Gadang. this house is a tall house. in this house there lived around 8 families. This house is filled with wood carvings from it's floor to it's doors. this traditional house is located in Bukittinggi.

TRADITIONAL WEAPONS
Kerambit is the first weapon. This weapon is well known for it's sharpness. This weapon looks like a curved/bent knive. The next weapon from Padang is called Pisau Cirawit. This weapon looks like a samurai sword whith a little curve on it's end. Other weapons from padang are Karih, Padang Jinawi and others.
FOOD
The traditional food from Padang are mostly spicy. some of the examples are Sate Padang, Rendang, Asam Padeh, Ayam Pop, Telur Gulai, and others.

TRADITIONAL CLOTHING
Padang's has two traditional clothing. The first one is for women which is called Baju Kurung. And the second one is Baju Gadang which is for men.


But all that is in Padang doesn't just stay there. Padangnese people works together with other Indonesians to promote their cultures. Now padangnese food can be found all over Indonesia. It's famous dances are well known and their songs are sang everywhere. And all these happens because of teamwork.
